Issue #2 - The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

The Occasional Rider is back again supporting the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. This year's event starts on Sunday 21 May .

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) is a global motorcycle event held annually to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and men's mental illness. Since its inception in 2012, DGR has been involved in collecting the equivalent of 37.5 million dollars for research.

The event itself involves dressing up in a classic "dapper" outfit (think Mad Men) and then riding together in a quiet and orderly motorcycle procession through the city. The entire event is tidy and is always very much appreciated by both participants and spectators. Despite the name, it is of course aimed at both gentlemen and gentlewomen.

The event is free to participate in but requires pre-registration at https://www.gentlemansride.com/ .

At the time of writing, there are events planned in the following Swedish cities: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lidköping, Västervik, Sundsvall. It is also possible to start your own DGR ride in another city. More info about it at https://www.gentlemansride.com/about/host-a-ride

A misconception is that DGR only addresses you who ride Triumph, but that is not true. Many different types of motorcycles are welcome to participate, although the event likes to see you ride with older motorcycles. You can find a style guide for which motorcycles you can ride at https://www.gentlemansride.com/about/style-guide

Even if you don't want to or can't participate yourself, you can still contribute to the event by sponsoring another driver.
